From Early Access to 1.0
NPC Studio launched Fields of Mistria into Early Access on August 5, 2024, with their first game. One reviewer mentions seeing a tweet crediting the game's creator with the Pusheen property and Delta Rune art (to be confirmed — community sourcing, not an official credit). Originally the plan was to reach 1.0 in about one year. In the October 2025 roadmap the team acknowledged the pace had shifted: taking time to implement community feedback pushed 1.0 to 2026.
The final two beats before full release:
- The Mines Update (Major Update 4), early 2026 — completed the Mines storyline, added the final Mines biome and a new spell, introduced a secret bachelorette, apiaries and terrariums, item processors, and performance work.
- The 1.0 Update (Major Update 5), August 5, 2026 — raised NPC hearts to 10 with proposal and wedding events, added marriage and children, raised the Renown cap to 100, made the Town Repair Storyline completable, added dungeon quests and rewards, new museum sets, and brought Stillwell and Zorel to the Saturday Market.
Reviewers who played throughout note the 1.0 build kept the Early Access core nearly intact — "the stuff that was already there just did not really change much" — on top of a large pile of new content. The reception was immediate: an all-time peak of 39,233 concurrent Steam players on August 9, 2026.
Platforms: What's Out and What Isn't
| Platform | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC — Windows (Steam) | ✅ Out now | Since Aug 5, 2024 (EA); 1.0 Aug 5, 2026 |
| PC — Linux (Steam) | ✅ Out now | Official Linux system requirements + native depot |
| Steam Deck | ✅ Steam Deck Verified | One of the top played games on Deck |
| Nintendo Switch | ❌ Not released — TBD | Official FAQ: "evaluating additional platform support" |
| PS5 | ❌ Not announced | No console version confirmed (to be confirmed) |
| Xbox | ❌ Not announced | No console version confirmed (to be confirmed) |
| macOS | ⚠️ (to be confirmed) | Steam lists a macOS depot but no Mac system requirements on the store page |
The official FAQ is blunt about consoles: "Fields of Mistria is currently available for Windows PC and is also Steam Deck compatible. We are currently evaluating additional platform support. Please stay tuned!" Media coverage since 1.0 reflects the same state — a GamesRadar review from September 2026 was literally headlined around "desperately waiting for Fields of Mistria to come to consoles." So while Switch (and Switch 2) demand is enormous, no console date, price, or edition has been announced by NPC Studio as of this writing — treat any specific "switch release date" you see elsewhere with suspicion.
Languages at Launch
With 1.0, NPC Studio shipped its first "beta" localizations — roughly 75% complete at release, with refinement promised going forward: Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish, alongside the original English. SteamDB tracks 8 supported languages; whether any offer full audio is (to be confirmed).
